- In Your Hands by Halle: “I’m the bandage for you when you’re bleeding out like the trees, I supply your oxygen.” I think this line speaks to the alluring quality of the seirenes using love and attraction to draw the listener in. Halle also has such a unique voice with an immense range, I think very fitting for the seirenes.
- Roslyn by Bon Iver, St Vincent: “Wings wouldn’t help you, Wings wouldn’t help you down” This song invokes a feeling of longing for me that I feel like would draw someone in and make them want to listen more. This line specifically speaks to me because the seirenes were said to be half bird and half woman.
- Asleep Among Endives by Ichiko Aoba: " 丸めた大地のてのひらに
つつまれたら 甘く苦い." This line is in Japanese but roughly translates to " And when I join my hand with yours, moments ago in touch with soil, It’s bittersweet." I think this line is beautiful and makes the listener think and feel light and delicate just like the song. The softness of the song is almost like a lullaby, and I think it would definitely draw one in. - Say Yes to Heaven by Lana Del Rey: “Like a barge at sea, In the storm I stay clear, 'cause I’ve got my mind on you.” Lana Del Rey also has a voice that is very angelic and gentle. This line I like the simile that she uses and the way she is singing towards a lover, I think this would draw the listener in.
- My Love Mine All Mine by Mitski: “Moon, tell me if I could send up my heart to you? So, when I die, which I must die could it shine down here with you?” This line is very beautiful to me, I think the way it talks about trying to hold onto something after death is very relatable and tempting. I think this would make one want to keep listening. Mitski’s voice is also so unique and serene, which I think is very fit for the seirenes.
Overall, I chose songs that I felt like were ethereal and alluring just like the seirenes were. Furthermore, I chose lines that evoked feeling like love and longing that I felt might draw a sailor in.
