My dear brother, son of Peleus, Achilles,
I have found myself unable to fill your shoes, the burden too great for me to carry. If only I heeded your word and turned back from the walls of Troy, perhaps I could have seen you once more. If I had stopped after bringing down Sarpedon, we could have fought together once more. Nevertheless, your armor gave me the courage and strength I needed to try to turn the fight around for the Achaeans. The enemy ran scared at first sight of this glorious and well-known armor. I am grateful for the chance to be able to gain glory even if through your name that puts fear into the hearts of the enemy. Alas, Hector has won this battle, through the help of the tricky god Apollo and yet another man. But I put fear into his heart with my last words; I know you will avenge me and get revenge on Hector, and he knows it too now. Strong, wise, Achilles, fate is on your side.
Your brother, Patroclus
Explanation: I wanted to highlight the feelings of bravery that Patroclus felt once putting on Achilles armor. The simple fact that he is so well-known causes enemies to flee from Patroclus, getting to his head. I think Patroclus was very relatable in this because if someone were to all of a sudden be feared and respected, I think there is a strong chance the glory would win. Furthermore, I think although sad about his choices, his confidence in his brother’s ability to defeat Hector would lead to a bittersweet but not devastating farewell from Patroclus.
